When he was 14, instead of doing homework, he started writing about a group of friends and enemies who become trapped in a terrifying realm of witches, monsters and bloodthirsty fiends.

Years later, supposedly grown up and staring down the barrel of 30, he returned to this draft and engaged a professional editor.
